Matematyk i informatyk, nauczyciel akademicki, profesor nauk technicznych, profesor zwyczajny Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, organizator kierunku informatyka na UR na poziomie licencjackim, inżynierskim i magisterskim.

Wieloletni pracownik naukowy i wykładowca w Instytucie Matematyki Wyższej Szkoły Pedagogicznej w Rzeszowie, kierownik Zakładu Informatyki (1986-2000). Organizator i kierownik Katedry Informatyki na Wydziale Matematyczno-Przyrodniczym UR (2006-2011 i 2013-2018), a także organizator i dyrektor Instytutu Informatyki (2011-2013). Współorganizator i współkierownik Laboratorium Informatyki Stosowanej Centrum Innowacji i Transferu Wiedzy Techniczno-Przyrodniczej (2013-2018). W latach 2001-2006 profesor Wyższej Szkoły Informatyki i Zarządzania w Rzeszowie, kierownik Katedry Podstaw Informatyki. Profesor Państwowej Wyższej Szkoły Zawodowej (od 2023 Państwowa Akademia Nauk Stosowanych im. ks. Bronisława Markiewicza) w Jarosławiu (2006-2009), prorektor ds. rozwoju uczelni i kierownik Zakładu Systemów Wspomagania Decyzji (2007-2009).

Zajmuje się matematycznymi podstawami informatyki, w tym modelowaniem matematycznym systemów współbieżnych, odkrywaniem modeli procesów z danych, reprezentacją wiedzy, wnioskowaniem w warunkach niepewności oraz projektowaniem inteligentnych systemów wspomagania decyzji. Uczestnik wielu staży naukowych w Polsce i za granicą. Autor lub współautor ponad 250 publikacji naukowych, głównie w języku angielskim, w tym artykułów, rozdziałów, skryptów, książek i monografii. Promotor 4 ukończonych rozpraw doktorskich, ponad 100 prac magisterskich oraz ponad 80 prac inżynierskich i licencjackich. Recenzent 1 wniosku o tytuł profesora, 4 wniosków o stanowiska profesora uczelni (w tym 1 wniosek zagraniczny), 3 rozpraw habilitacyjnych i 6 rozpraw doktorskich (w tym 2 zagraniczne).

Prowadził wykłady i ćwiczenia z różnych przedmiotów matematyczno-informatycznych, a także wykłady monograficzne i seminaria dyplomowe z zakresu matematyki i informatyki dotyczące swoich zainteresowań naukowych.

Publikował lub nadal publikuje w takich czasopismach jak m.in. Information Sciences, Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences: Technical Sciences, International Journal of Intelligent Systems, Pattern Recognition Letters, Fundamenta Informaticae, International Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems, Journal of Intelligent Information Systems.

Członek Rady Redakcyjnej LNCS Transactions on Rough Sets i International Journal of Rough Sets and Data Analysis. Redaktor lub współredaktor wydań specjalnych Fundamenta Informaticae i Transactions on Rough Sets. Organizator lub współorganizator wielu konferencji krajowych i międzynarodowych, w tym międzynarodowych warsztatów "Concurrency, Specification and Programming" (2003, 2005, 2015) oraz międzynarodowej konferencji "Soft Computing and Distributed Processing" (2002). Członek ponad 60 komitetów programowych konferencji krajowych i międzynarodowych. Aktywnie uczestniczył w ponad 180 konferencjach naukowych. Kierownik kilkunastu projektów badawczych. Brał udział w projektach Unii Europejskiej. Aktywnie uczestniczył w projektach badawczych realizowanych w innych uczelniach lub jednostkach badawczo-rozwojowych w kraju i za granicą.

Członek profesjonalnych polskich i zagranicznych towarzystw naukowych. Były członek Komitetu Sterującego International Rough Set Society, a także sekretarz tego stowarzyszenia, obecnie członek senior. Były wiceprezes Oddziału Rzeszowskiego Polskiego Towarzystwa Matematycznego i Towarzystwa Naukowego w Rzeszowie. Przewodniczący Komisji Nauk Informatycznych TNR. Członek Special Interest Group on Petri Nets and Related System Models, Gesellschaft für Informatik.

Aktywnie działa na rzecz promocji rzeszowskiego środowiska naukowego w Polsce i na świecie. Jej wyrazem jest m.in. zorganizowanie i kierowanie Rough Set and Petri Net Research Group od 2001 roku. Grupa powstała w WSIiZ w Rzeszowie, a od 2006 działa na Uniwersytecie Rzeszowskim. Wśród członków tej grupy 7 osób uzyskało stopień doktora w zakresie informatyki lub matematyki, a jedna z nich jest doktorem habilitowanym w zakresie informatyki. Jest również pomysłodawcą i redaktorem naczelnym portalu nauki i wiedzy Matematycy i Informatycy Podkarpacia+ oraz współorganizatorem i osobą odpowiedzialną za prawidłowy rozwój i poprawność merytoryczną serwisu bibliograficznego Rough Set Database System, który działa od roku 2003.

Laureat dwóch nagród Ministra oraz wielu nagród Rektora uczelni i wyższych szkół zawodowych, w których pracował. Odznaczony Złotym i Srebrnym Krzyżem Zasługi oraz Medalem Komisji Edukacji Narodowej.

Mathematician and computer scientist, academic teacher, professor of technical sciences, ordinary professor at the University of Rzeszów, organizer of computer science at the University at the undergraduate, engineering and graduate level.

Long-term researcher and lecturer at the Institute of Mathematics of the Pedagogical University in Rzeszów, head of the Department of Computer Science (1986-2000). Organizer and head of the Chair of Computer Science at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of UR (2006-2011 and 2013-2018), as well as the organizer and director of the Institute of Computer Science (2011-2013). Co-organizer and co-director of the Applied Computer Science Laboratory of the Center for Innovation and Knowledge Transfer in Technology and Life Sciences (2013-2018). In 2001-2006, professor at the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszów, head of the Chair of Fundamentals of Computer Science. Professor of the State Higher Vocational School (from 2023 the State University of Technology and Economics) in Jarosław (2006-2009), vice-rector for university development and head of the Decision Support Systems Department (2007-2009).

He deals with mathematical aspects of computer science, including mathematical modeling of concurrent systems, discovering process models from data, knowledge representation, inference under uncertainty and designing intelligent decision support systems. Participant of many research internships in Poland and abroad. Author or co-author of over 250 scientific publications, mainly in English, including articles, chapters, scripts, books and monographs. Promoter of 4 completed doctoral dissertations, over 100 master's theses and over 80 engineering and bachelor's theses. Reviewer of 1 application for the title of professor, 4 applications for the position of university professor (including 1 foreign application), 3 habilitation theses and 6 doctoral theses (including 2 foreign ones).

He conducted lectures and exercises in various mathematical and IT subjects, as well as monographic lectures and diploma seminars in the field of mathematics and computer science in the field of his scientific interests.

He has published or still publishes in such journals as incl. Information Sciences, Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences: Technical Sciences, International Journal of Intelligent Systems, Pattern Recognition Letters, Fundamenta Informaticae, International Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems, Journal of Intelligent Information Systems.

Member of the Editorial Board of LNCS Transactions on Rough Sets and International Journal of Rough Sets and Data Analysis. Editor or co-editor of special issues of Fundamenta Informaticae and Transactions on Rough Sets. Organizer or co-organizer of several national and international conferences, including the international workshop "Concurrency, Specification and Programming" (2003, 2005, 2015) and International Conference on "Soft Computing and Distributed Processing" (2002). Member of over 60 program committees of national and international conferences. He actively participated in over 180 scientific conferences. Manager of over 10 research projects. He took part in European Union projects. He actively participated in research projects carried out in other universities or research and development units in the country and abroad.

Member of professional Polish and foreign scientific societies. Former member of the Steering Committee of the International Rough Set Society and also secretary of this society, currently a senior member. Former vice president of the Rzeszów Branch of the Polish Mathematical Society and also the Scientific Society in Rzeszów. Chairman of the IT Sciences Committee of SSR in Rzeszów. Member of Special Interest Group on Petri Nets and Related System Models, Gesellschaft für Informatik.

Actively works to promote the Rzeszów research center in Poland and in the world. Its expression is, among others organizing and managing the Rough Set and Petri Net Research Group, since 2001, first at UITM in Rzeszów, and since 2006 at the University of Rzeszów. Among the members of this group, 7 people obtained a doctoral degree in computer science or mathematics, and one of them is a habilitated doctor in the field of computer science. He is also the originator and editor-in-chief of the science and knowledge portal Matematycy i Informatycy Podkarpacia+ and the co-organizer and person responsible for the proper development and substantive correctness of the bibliographic service Rough Set Database System, which has been operating since 2003.

Winner of two awards from the Minister and many awards from the Rector of the universities and higher vocational schools where he worked. Decorated with the Gold and Silver Cross of Merit and the Medal of the National Education Commission.
